Electrik.NG is committed to your right to have your personal data deleted. This page explains what you can delete, what we are legally required to retain, and the exact steps to submit a deletion request - including for data collected through our WhatsApp bot integration with Meta.
You may request deletion of:
Nigerian financial regulations require us to keep certain records even after you request deletion. The following data is retained for the period shown and cannot be deleted on request:
| Data type | Retention period | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction records (meter number, amount, token, DISCO, date) | 7 years | CBN Anti-Money Laundering / Financial regulations |
| Payment gateway references (payment provider transaction IDs) | 7 years | Financial record-keeping obligation |
| Audit logs relating to financial transactions | 2 years | NDPA 2023 / fraud prevention |
| Records relating to an active dispute or legal proceeding | Until resolution + 1 year | Legal hold |
After the applicable retention period, all retained data is permanently and irreversibly deleted from our systems.
You have three ways to submit a deletion request:
Log in → go to Profile → scroll to Danger Zone → click "Delete My Account". Your account and all deletable data will be anonymised within 30 days. Transaction records subject to legal retention are pseudonymised (your name and contact details are removed; the financial record itself is kept).
Send an email to privacy@electrik.ng with the subject line "Data Deletion Request". Include the email address or phone number associated with your account so we can locate your records. We will confirm receipt within 48 hours and complete the deletion within 30 days.
Email privacy@electrik.ngIf you only want to remove the WhatsApp bot connection without deleting your Electrik.NG account: log in → go to WhatsApp Bot → click "Unlink WhatsApp", or send STOP to our bot number. Your hashed phone number and conversation transcripts older than 7 days are deleted within 30 days.
